Preschool Programs

gcps
The Virginia Preschool Initiative distributes state funds to schools and community-based organizations to provide quality preschool programs for at-risk three and four year-olds unserved by the federal Head Start program. The purpose of the grant is to reduce disparities among young children upon formal school entry and to reduce or eliminate those risk factors that lead to early academic failure.

Acceptance to the program is based on state and local eligibility criteria. Students must be residents of Giles County to apply.

GCPS currently operates four Virginia Preschool Initiative classrooms: one at Narrows Elementary/Middle School, one at Eastern Elementary/Middle School, and two at Macy McClaugherty School. Our preschool programs provide a dynamic, nurturing and play-based setting for every child to learn and promotes healthy social, emotional, and physical development. We provide high quality academic instruction that encourages life-long learning and focuses on the growth of the whole child.
